Day 8 of the Career Champions Challenge
Welcome to the final day of the Career Champions challenge!
Thank you for participating in the Career Champions challenge. Your willingness to devote time to this training shows your desire to help our students succeed after graduation from UAlbany. We hope we’ve been able to provide useful information, resources, and an additional perspective to help you as you speak to your students about careers, jobs, and internships. We also hope some of you are now interested in incorporating career readiness competencies into your curriculum.
Final Thoughts
We have covered a lot of material in a short time, and it would be understandable if you were feeling overwhelmed. As we stated at the beginning of the challenge, we do not expect that you will now be able to address all the students’ career concerns. You are also not expected to do the same work as a career advisor in the Office of Career & Professional Development. You can and should refer students to our office! As a Career Champion, you can help extend our reach to more students by being an available resource and meeting them where they are. You can start conversations and get them to think about their careers before they meet with us. Many students don’t know about our services, and you can be a bridge by introducing those resources to them.
During this last session, we want to remind you about where to go to get specific resources that are designed for you. We have a community on our website for Career Champions. It contains blog posts so you can keep up with the latest news on career-related events and programs. It also has assignments you can use in classes and individually with students. The training you have done this week also resides there. It is easy for you to revisit the information and videos you have explored during this challenge. We also want to encourage you to reach out to the Office of Career and Professional Development with any questions or ideas for collaboration.
Helping our students succeed after graduation is a team effort. Thank you for joining our team and taking the time to become a Career Champion! We look forward to collaborating with you further.
