Kayla is a Career Ready Great Dane!

Headshot of Kayla Hameed, Class of 2028

Major: Psychology and Communications

Please describe the experiences that have made you a Career Ready Great Dane:

This year has been focused on getting more involved and networking. I’m part of First Generation College Students and the National Congress of Black Women – both orgs have allowed me to interact with people from similar and different backgrounds. I became a peer tutor which as strengthened my listening, problem solving and goal setting skills. Over winter break, I attended Great Danes NYC and took site visits with multiple amazing companies pertaining to my major. Finally, through networking, I secured my internship this year. I am interning in the HR office here at UAlbany where I’ve gained skills in HR systems, application tracking and on-boarding processes. Throughout all of these experiences, I have continually grown professionally.

Advice for other Great Danes: Don’t be afraid to say yes but don’t stretch yourself too thin. Being open to different ideas and opportunities can help you both professionally and personally. It’s easy to say no, especially if something is unfamiliar. But, what may seem overwhelming or uninteresting at first, could turn into something you truly enjoy or may open the door to new opportunities.
