Vasuda is a Career Ready Great Dane!

Major: Information Sciences

Please describe the experiences that have made you a Career Ready Great Dane: As a PhD Candidate, I have built a path that led to a NASA internship this summer supporting the Habitable Worlds Observatory, developing multidimensional machine learning algorithms to predict exoplanetary atmospheric spectra. My previous experiences include contributing to interdisciplinary projects with SUNY Research Foundation, Center for Technology in Government and NYSDOH. I’ve also served as IEEE Student Chair, Graduate Student Ambassador and Senator-At-Large and presenting at conferences including IEEE Big Data, MaxEnt, HWO, SEEC Symposium, Carl Sagan Workshop and MIT Reality Hack. These experiences have strengthened my research, technical, leadership and collaborative skills preparing me for careers in AI research, data science and planetary science.

Advice for other Great Danes: Actively seek diverse experiences that build both technical and professional skills. Don’t wait for opportunities – explore research projects, internships, and interdisciplinary collaborations, participate in conferences, hackathons and workshops to expand your network. Leadership roles in student orgs can strengthen communication, teamwork and project management skills. Be persistent and curious and use campus resources like the Career and Professional Development office, research labs and faculty mentorship to guide your path. Each experience compounds, opening doors to opportunities.
