The Wisconsin Department of Revenue (DOR) is seeking Revenue Agent limited term employees (LTEs) to assist in our Tax Operations and Compliance bureaus. Our positions available in the Tax Operations bureau are eligible for a 100% remote work schedule. Our positions available in the Compliance bureau will be performed onsite at our Madison office located at 2135 Rimrock Rd.
Tax experience is not required; training is provided for all positions. LTE positions do not have benefits but can provide valuable knowledge and skills useful for competing for permanent positions that may later become available at DOR. LTE positions are limited to 1039 hours per year.

Position Summary
Revenue Agent, Tax Operations – Business Tax. Location: Applicants must be Wisconsin residents and reside in the State of Wisconsin. These positions will offer a 100% telecommuting/remote work schedule.
Work hours: Flexible after training, 20 hours per week average maximum. Anticipated duration: year-round, with a max of 1039 hours worked per year.
Duties: Review and resolve semi-complex, suspended sales and use tax returns and payments. Issue letters requesting additional information to resolve suspended returns. Processing data warehouse cases, returns, payments, incoming mail, and other worklist items as needed. Does not include phone work.
You must have access to a private work location with high-speed internet.
Revenue Agent, Compliance – Process Data Services. Location: Madison.
Work hours: 7:45 am – 4:30 pm; full-time preferred but not required. Approximate duration: Starting ASAP or in April/May with a max of 1039 hours worked in a year.
Duties: Respond to customer inquiries via telephone and email regarding the interception of refunds against debts to other Wisconsin state agencies. Prepare payment vouchers, process incoming mail, determine prorated refunds, research and apply suspended payments, and conduct research on name and identification mismatches.
Salary Information
The salary is $20.24 per hour. The position is not eligible for benefits, under the terms of limited term employment.
Job Details
The department will conduct a background check, fingerprint check and tax compliance check prior to making an offer to hire. Interview results may be reused in accordance with the State of WI interview reuse policy.
Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States. The Department of Revenue does not sponsor work or student visas, either at time of hire or at any time. DOR participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with Form I-9 information for all new employees to confirm authorization to work in the United States.
Qualifications
On the job training will be provided for new hires.
To be successful in the Tax Operations bureau position, candidates will need effective verbal and written communication skills, intermediate computer skills, researching skills, be self-motivated, have the ability to switch between tasks, and have the ability to work in a team atmosphere.
To be successful in the Compliance bureau position, candidates will need to have the ability to work independently, perform detailed research and analysis, employ problem solving and basic math skills, have effective verbal communication skills, have the ability to maintain proper telephone etiquette, have the ability to remain at a workstation for extended periods, and proficient computer skills.
