This is an Outreach Notice to let current Undergraduate Juniors and Seniors know about an upcoming Student Traineeship / Scholarship Program starting in Spring of 2024. The William F. Helms Scholarship Program will begin accepting applications the third week in March. If you are interested in an exciting and rewarding career that has an impact on the health of US agriculture, consider the USDA Pathways Internship Program – Plant Protection and Quarantine – William F. Helms Scholarship opportunity.
Students interested in the Internship and this scholarship opportunity of up to $10,000 ($5,000 per year for a maximum of 2 years)

Must be available to work ONSITE at the location you are selected for: Albany, NY or Lockport, NY. Housing and/ or Relocation is the responsibility of the selectee. The participants will work during Summer and School Breaks. Selectee is encouraged to work part time during school year, as coursework allows.
- Degree and Coursework MUST be in the field of Agriculture, Biology, Plant Sciences or closely related field
- Selectee will work onsite year-round at either the Albany or Lockport Office
- Must be available to work a regular schedule when classes are in session as well as during scheduled breaks.
- Must be in good academic standing as defined by their academic institution.
- Complete at least 640 hrs of work experience prior to completion of degree.
- Enrolled at least half-time at a qualifying educational institution.
- A signed participant agreement is required for employment under Pathways.
- Satisfactory Background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Valid state driver’s license is required at the time of application
U.S. Citizenship is a Requirement
