Tamerlaine Sanctuary & Preserve is seeking a driven Special Events and Development Intern to support our growing organization.
Tamerlaine Sanctuary & Preserve is dedicated to the rescue and care of exploited, abused, and otherwise discarded farmed animals while engaging in varied outreach efforts to create a world that is compassionate toward all beings, especially the most vulnerable among us. We are home to over 250 rescued farm animals over a sprawling 336-acre farm, and are expanding our efforts to include wildlife preservation.
We are seeking an individual with a strong work ethic and a passion for humane education, non-profit development, and fundraising. The Development Department plays an integral role in the operations of Tamerlaine Sanctuary & Preserve. Our individual and institutional donors make the work of our organization possible. The Special Events & Development Intern will assist with event planning including cultivation and stewardship events; developing donor communications; developing donor reports and researching the background and giving history of potential and current donors.
This position reports to the Development Director and is mostly remote with opportunities to spend time at the Sanctuary to get to know our nonhuman animal residents. Ideally, the person who fills this role will be available to visit the farm monthly to collaborate with other staff and potentially in NYC to work in-person with the Development Director.

Primary Responsibilities:
Special Events
- Work closely with the administrative team on all special events;
- Manage event records, including sponsorship and ticket sales, and RSVP tracking;
- Assist with special event and day-of-event operations including set-up and execution;
- Conduct research on event donors and prospects.
General Development Support
- Support the development team in a myriad of fundraising efforts;
- Assist in drafting donor correspondence and outreach communication;
- Ad hoc projects as needed.
The candidate must:
- Be driven and perform with a sense of urgency
- Feel comfortable working independently
- Be organized and communicative with various managers
- Be professional and represent Tamerlaine Sanctuary & Preserve positively
- Ideally be passionate about animal advocacy/veganism/ environmentalism
- Feel comfortable following instruction while being enthusiastic about collaborative projects
- Be an excellent writer and inspired to share stories and knowledge with our supporters and community.
Qualifications:
- A strong interest in non-profit work, particularly fundraising and event planning
- Relevant education and/ or experience
- Familiarity or willingness to become familiar with Salesforce, Google Docs, Asana, Canva, and other platforms for the purposes of team collaboration
- Ability to multitask while being attentive to detail
- Ability to show initiative, ask questions, and adapt to changing priorities
Compensation, Location and Hours:
- Remote internship and flexible hours, weekly phone calls, and potential for day trips to the Sanctuary or meetings in NYC
- Unpaid internship with potential for academic credit
- 15- 20 hours per week for at least 15 weeks is required. Maximum length is based on the intern’s performance and the number of applications we receive
