The Utility Engineering Specialist 1, Grade 18, will work in the Long Island Office (LIO), primarily fulfilling the responsibilities of the LIO in accordance with the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) Reform Act and will also work with the Department’s Office of Energy System Planning and Performance (ESPP). Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Fulfilling responsibilities in accordance with the LIPA Reform Act.
- Reviewing Utility 2.0 filing and identifying any related issues.
- Reviewing engineering aspects of utility long-term energy plans and developing recommendations consistent with best practice and policies.
- Examining utilities cost allocations, embedded costs, and rate design.
- Reviewing utility performance metrics.
- Reviewing utilities capital and operation and maintenance budget, including monthly capital expenditure variance reports.
- Monitoring utility storm preparedness and response activities including conducting field visits during storm events.
- Conducting field inspections of utility infrastructure to assess conditions, identify deficiencies, and verify compliance and safety standards.
- Analyzing tariff proposals related to changes in rates, charges, rules, and regulations, along with the preparation of memoranda or recommendation letters.
