Internship Program Mission:
To engage in the selection of undergraduate and graduate talent (in specific roles, advanced degrees) for an internship with HAI Group designed to support each student’s focus of study by evoking the utilization of acquired knowledge, theory, and skills for practical application at work.
Internship Overview:
As an insurance operations intern at HAI Group you will be exposed to challenging real world work experience within the Underwriting/ Insurance Services department along with rewarding learning and development curriculum. You will have the opportunity to network across all areas of the organization, work alongside your peers and meet with many different levels of leadership throughout your experience. The HAI Group Underwriting department evaluates the risk of all current or prospective Public Housing Authority and affiliated business for coverage eligibility through HARRG, HAPI or HEIC. The department fully analyzes risk and exposures and then prices the account base on established underwriting guidelines and state rules. The underwriting team’s role also includes CAT exposure analysis, coverage evaluation, price negotiation, member relations, program profitability, market conditions, reinsurance requirements, policy reviews etc. The team works very closely with the Claims, Marketing, Risk Control and other departments to provide a high level of services / products to the members
This is a full time, paid internship that is required to be on-site in the HAI Group office, located in Cheshire, CT. The program will run from June – August.
Major Responsibilities:
As an Intern, you will be asked to work on various projects. Your reports, at the end of the program, will serve as a resource for the Underwriters when it comes to risk selection and pricing. The projects could entail an analysis around:
- Exposure
- Rating
- Loss Trends
- Coverage Amounts
Academic Background:
Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student, pursuing a degree in Business, Insurance, STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) or related field.
Knowledge/Skills:
- Strong Microsoft Applications skill set using products such as SharePoint, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- A creative thinker with the ability to methodically analyze (loss trends) and resolve business critical issues
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience:
Prior work experience not required, however, exposure to insurance business operations or insurance underwriting is helpful
