The Office of the Dean of Students provides Great Danes and their support network with inclusive, innovative, and impactful support services and education to promote successful scholarship through specialized resources, consultation, and, when appropriate, advocacy to help them navigate the University at Albany. Our office serves as an umbrella for Community Standards (along with Off-Campus Student Services), Disability Access and Inclusion Student Services (DAISS), Supplemental Support Services, and Veteran and Military Student Services. The Graduate Assistant (GA) for Disability Access and Inclusion Services is crucial in implementing testing accommodations at the DAISS Testing Center. Under the supervision of the Operations Specialist, the Graduate Assistant is responsible for administering and coordinating exams for students registered with DAISS. This position supports faculty in facilitating authorized testing accommodations and ensures a conducive environment for students requiring alternate testing times and locations.

Required Qualifications:
- Enrollment in a graduate program at the University at Albany, SUNY (by July 1, 2024).
- Highly proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, etc.)
- Impeccable attention to detail.
- Experience in customer service and providing administrative support (i.e., answering phones, responding to emails, scheduling exams, etc.).
- Ability to work with a culturally diverse population.
- Ability to quickly learn new technologies and online databases.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Extensive knowledge of University at Albany resources.
- Knowledge of the Office of the Dean of Students units and resources.
- Supervisory experience or experience leading others.
Responsibilities and Duties of the Graduate Assistant for The Disability Access and Inclusion Services (DAISS):
- Assist with receiving and preparing exams and accompanying instructions.
- Assist with providing testing accommodations for students with disabilities.
- Coordinate and ensure confidentiality and security of testing materials.
- Assist professors in ensuring that testing accommodations are provided consistently to students with disabilities.
- Assist with proctoring/administration of accommodated exams.
- Assist with coordinating the conversion of materials, as needed, for equal access, including enlargements and alternate format or file type.
- Communicate issues to the Senior Accessibility Coordinator.
- Assist with overseeing student staff working within the DAISS Testing Center.
- Train, schedule, supervise, and, when needed, take corrective action toward Student Assistants and Work/Study students.
- Ensure adequate coverage for proctoring by student staff workers.
- Perform other duties and special projects as directed by the Accessibility Coordinator and Assistant Dean.
Reporting Structure:
- This position reports directly to the Operations Specialist. The Operations Specialist reports to the Assistant Dean of Students, DAISS.
Appointment:
- August 15. 2024 to May 21, 2025
- 20 Hours per week in person between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
- Due to this position’s duties, some of the GA’s weekly hours may require evening and weekend availability, including during finals.
Compensation: A stipend of $12,000 is paid bi-weekly in accordance with the University Payroll Schedule for Graduate Assistants. This position does not provide a tuition waiver.
The successful candidate must attend training from August 15, 2024, through August 21, 2024.
