Sophie is a Career Ready Great Dane!

Major: Political Science & Communications

Please describe the experiences that have made you a Career Ready Great Dane:

I have spent two spring semesters working full-time while receiving credit; the New York State Assembly internship and the Semester in Washington program. While in Washington, DC, I worked with a private PR firm that provided media training to CEO’s and high ranking government officials. I also spent last summer studying abroad at the London School of Economics and Political Science. This year, I work as a staff writer with UAlbany’s Office of Communications and Marketing, highlighting student success and university achievements. Additionally, on campus, I serve as the VP of the SUNY Student Assembly, the student governing body across all SUNY Campuses and was past president of UAlbany Mock Trial. Student leadership is important to building skills and understanding your professional outlook.

Advice for other Great Danes: Don’t go into interviews blind. Thing about how you may answer commonly asked questions. Research the company before submitting your application. Have follow-up questions prepared and send thank you messages afterward. This demonstrates to your future employer that you are more than just a resume! Once you’ve secured the opportunity, put your best foot forward and be open to continuous learning. Every good and bad experience can be beneficial, but only when you show up and prove yourself.
