Teaching Career Champions

Transparency in Learning and Teaching (TILT) has been shown to improve outcomes for students including quality of work and persistence.  When students understand the purpose of assignments and how they relate to post graduation success, they are more likely to be engaged in the work.  The Teaching Career Champions program was designed to assist instructors in connecting their coursework to specific competencies sought by employers and to encourage the inclusion of relevant career development activities in the classroom.

To become a Teaching Career Champion

  1. Complete two of the first seven days of the Career Champions challenge. You may choose any two but are encouraged to choose ones that complement the topic you plan to include in your course.
  2. The following list includes ways you can include Career Development in your curriculum. Choose two ideas to incorporate
    1. Include a Career Learning Outcome related to the course content and student population.
    1. Dedicate a class to a career topic or a career theory.
    1. Require participation in either the XEd for all Expo or one of the Career Fairs. Include an assignment related to the student’s participation.  Consider cancelling your class to make it easier for students to attend.
    1. Invite an industry representative(s) into class.
    1. Include one of our assignments in the course content.
    1. Create your own career assignment and share it with us.  If you give us permission, it will be included on our website for other champions to use.
