External and Regulatory Affairs serves as NYC Health + Hospitals’ primary liaison to city, state, and federal elected officials and governmental agencies and presents NYC Health + Hospitals’ interests to legislative and executive branches of government. The office includes community affairs, government affairs, and regulatory affairs. The office provides staff support to the Council of CABs, Auxiliaries, and each NYC Health + Hospitals facility concerning CAB development, Auxiliaries management, and operations. The office also provides staff support to the Board of Directors Community Relations Committee and Board of Directors’ annual public meetings.
INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION:
We are looking for an intern who is eager to learn about community involvement at the country’s largest public health system by supporting the department. You will work closely with our team to conduct research, record data, and attend meetings where you will be asked to take minutes.
A successful Intern should help with any tasks assigned by a supervisor and assist with upcoming projects and campaigns.
Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Community Affairs, his designee or other staff in the Office of Intergovernmental Relations, Intern will perform a variety of administrative and outreach duties associated with Community and Legislative affairs.
The intern will work with Community Advisory Boards (CAB’s), Auxiliaries, and other community-based initiatives. Interns will be asked to rotate between HHC facilities across the network during the week, experiencing different office environments and leadership structures.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support in recordkeeping and data collection for the CABs and Auxiliaries throughout the HHC system, which provide community advocacy and fundraising to our hospitals, respectively.
- Attend various monthly CAB & Auxiliary meetings.
- Collect and contribute updates for e-digest.
- Participate in community programming to support the efforts of the Central Office or a facility within our network.
- Fulfill tasks set out by the assigned director.
- Help organize team-building programming as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Current college/university student final or recent graduate.
- A graduate or current student at a two-year or four-year College or its educational equivalent.
- Demonstrated interest in community organizing, governmental relations, and outreach.
- Eager to learn and work with various staff within the departments.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to take direction and multitask.
- Cope well under pressure.
