Program Office/Description:

Native American Education Unit. The Unit provides technical assistance, payments, bus purchases, processing Higher Education student applications, to thirteen (13) school districts with three (3) schools on-reserve with student tuition , supplemental funds, transportation and Higher Education. Organize and coordinate conferences, school and Tribal nation visits, presentations to high school senior students preparing for higher education with NYS Indian Aid. Collaborating with other SED departments on inclusion of Native American, (ex: My Brothers Keeper, Bi-lingual Languages Committee, School Meals).

The Assignment (Description of Job):

Intern will assist with Native American educational research assignments such as; Native American school district data, high school graduation rates, Higher Education graduation rates and all assignments related to Native American Education issues.

NAED website page creation, updating information and monitoring.

Assist at Native American Education Conference with conference set-up, registration, note taker, photography, assisting as needed with all duties related to conference.

The intern will provide support to the agency’s efforts to improve outcomes for Indigenous students in New York. This work will be part of the agency’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiative.

Students will participate in SED on-line courses ex; Customer Service, Privacy, Workplace Hazard and Safety, all required training as stipulated through Human Resources.

Professional Experience: Cultural Sensitivity Training

Desired Skills, Abilities, & Educational Background:

Bachelor of Arts/MA/PhD: Education Studies, Computers, Research, Data Analysis, Marketing, Business Management, Human Resources, Education, Data and Analytics, Marketing, Web Design, Computers.

Schedule/Hours:

The intern will complete 20 hours per week, must be available in the office on Fridays 1:00 pm- 5:00 PM
