The office of NYC Council Deputy Speaker is seeking a Constituent and Community Liaison to address community and individual constituent issues and service needs by engaging actively with residents, community groups, advocates, and colleagues. This position is based out of the South Bronx and the candidate must be willing to work evenings and weekends as necessary.

The Constituent and Community Liaison will oversee community issues, attend community meetings, constituent casework, interagency communications, and events.

Key Responsibilities:

• Casework management and problem solving for constituents on a diverse range of issues, including but not limited to landlord-tenant, education, environmental, transportation, small business, employment, consumer affairs, parks, sanitation, crime and quality of life

• Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of issues facing residents of the district

• Build and maintain relationships with community leaders, elected officials, city agencies, advocacy groups, and council staff

• Engage constituents through events, stakeholder meetings, and community outreach

• Recommend and implement strategies to engage with external stakeholders (including advocates and other elected officials) and internal teams to solve issues affecting the district

• Represent the office and staff the Council Member at district wide meetings, including some night and weekend events

• Assist with planning and organizing community events

Qualifications:

• Exceptional oral and written communication skills

• Highly organized and careful attention to detail

• An interest in local government, politics, and city issues

• Experience building and maintaining relationships with diverse communities

• Ability to multitask and manage projects from inception to conclusion

• Good judgment and political sensitivity

• Ability to set and meet internal and external deadlines, work in a fast-paced government office, and work both independently and within a team.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

New York City residency required within 90 days of appointment.
