The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) is seeking currently enrolled college students who are interested in hourly employment opportunities this fall through summer. As the State’s Department of Transportation, the NJDOT plans, designs, builds, and maintains New Jersey’s transportation network. The Department is now offering hourly positions that will allow students to work on an hourly basis in the fall of 2022 through the summer of 2023. Hours of work will be determined by the hiring unit, but will not exceed 40 hours per week. It should be noted that the position does not offer a benefits package or telework. Description: The Division of Accounting and External Audit within the Assistant Commissioner of Finance and Administration is responsible for Financial Reporting to the NJ Department of Treasury, accounting, and auditing functions for the NJDOT, OPRA requests, revenue collection related to Federal Highway Administration, Federal grants and non – state funded agreements and auditing of professional service contracts. Bureau of Agreement Accounting: The primary responsibilities of the unit involve the revenue functions of the Department and it is broken out by two units: Revenue and Capital Accounting. This position would be performing accounting functions within both units. Revenue Accounting is responsible for Federal Highwaymandated financial management activities including billings, Federal Grant administration, financial administration of cost sharing agreements, recording of cash receipts, and accounts receivable management including delinquent debt. Capital Accounting is responsible for certification of funds related to the Capital Construction program, appropriation accounting including transfers and encumbrances, tracking of multiyear funded projects, intergovernmental payments between the Department and other State Agencies, and Federal agreement closings and suspense analysis. PreferredQualities/Experience: • A third or fourth – year student pursing a degree in Accounting • Strong analytical skills and technical skills • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Proficiency in Microsoft Office specifically Microsoft Excel • Finance experience a plus Work Authorization: Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States according to the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.
