A publicist is responsible for ensuring that their client or company is always portrayed positively in the public eye.
What is the role of a Publicist Intern?
Publicists are responsible for scheduling events, speaking engagements, interviews and public appearances with the relevant personnel. In some instances, publicists are responsible for creating buzz for new products to increase sales and demand.
Responsibilities:
• Create and execute publicity plans for clients
• Write press releases, which are generalized announcements
• Cultivate relationships with journalists in order to place stories with them; good publicists understand the inner-workings of the media so they can recognize the stories that certain journalists want to write about
• Discern which stories are obvious and don’t require much in the way of publicity
• Pitch new stories to media
• Arrange and flesh out talking points for press visits, interviews, appointments, and press conferences
• Create and edit press releases, media alerts, and press kit materials
• Build and maintain relationships with various media outlets
Requirements and skills:
• Proven experience working as a publicist in the industry preferred
• Strong knowledge of current affairs in the industry
• Impeccable interpersonal and social skills
• Efficient multitasking and time management abilities
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Exceptional debating and public speaking abilities
• Professional appearance and demeanor
• Able to sit, stand and move around for long periods at a time
