The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) is searching for talented individuals to join our team as a Student Assistant for our VENTURA and BAKERSFIELD office locations. The Student Assistant position is an entry-level position that gains the experience and skills that are sought after for many internal and external promotional opportunities.
With the direction and supervision of a first line supervisor, Student Assistants, in a learning capacity, are responsible for assisting in a wide variety of work in audit or compliance/collections. The Student Assistant examines confidential taxpayer records, collects evidence for further actions or audits, completes case summaries, and provides taxpayers with sales tax law information. Student Assistants complete training and meet regularly to discuss finding and recommendations with lead auditors and collectors. Some tasks include:
- Preparing reports and performing field observations.
- Observing and assisting with audits of low to moderate difficulty with guidance from lead auditor.
- Perform audit procedures, evaluate internal controls and risk.
- Examine books and records, use sampling techniques and specialized audit tests.
- Observe and assist collectors with the case reviews. Make preliminary case notes.
- Assist collector with review of financial records to determine appropriate payment plans.
- Performing other job-related duties as required.
