Position Summary
The VP, US Medical Immunology & Fibrosis plays a critical strategic leadership role with oversight across the Immunology portfolio. Leading a team of medical professionals across USM, this role is accountable for translating medical, customer & competitive insights into implications and medical plans for the disease area. In addition, this role requires a cross-matrix leader to drive forward and provide oversight across Immunology. This role reports into the SVP, head of US Medical.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a US Medical strategy in partnership with the Commercial and Development teams to deliver cohesive asset and brand strategies across the Immunology and Fibrosis portfolio
- Ability to lead and develop an organization with strength in medical, clinical practice and scientific expertise
- Accountable for the strategic alignment and effective decision making across the Immunology and Fibrosis portfolio
- Transform clinical and other data into medical knowledge for both internal and external stakeholders
- Drive an integrated strategy and communication platform to ensure optimized and aligned thought leader interactions and seamless coordinated communications both internally and externally
- Establish linkages across all major functions (e.g. Development, R&D, HEOR, Value Access & Pricing, Regulatory, Commercial, Public Affairs, etc.) and building alignment with cross-functional partners on key initiatives such as developing an optimal approach to data generation, communication and supporting access
- Partner with Development, WW Medical, Commercial, and functional stakeholders to manage the Integrated Evidence Plan, including investigator sponsored studies, collaborative studies, and Phase IV trials
- Be an integral part of the US medical leadership team and delegate for the head of US medical, as required
- Develop & maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, as well as thought leaders, advocacy and disease organizations
- Adapt to a changing environment through contingency planning and appropriate resource allocation
- Ensure compliance with medical, regulatory, legal and ethical standards
- Driving leadership in Talent & Culture management. Embedding the BMS People Strategy and ensuring employee engagement, attraction, development and retention of talent.
- Manage a large team of over 100 colleagues spanning multiple therapeutic areas across the Immunology and Fibrosis franchise.
Qualifications & Experience
- Advanced scientific degree, MD, PharmD, PhD preferred
- Clinical or industry experience in Immunology is preferred
- Relevant industry (Medical Affairs or Clinical Development) academic and clinical experience for 10-15+ years
- Experience in a customer-facing role with thought leaders and key customers preferred
- Strong authentic leadership presence with the ability to represent US Medical function in multiple forums both internally and externally
- Keen understanding of drug development and commercialization processes including understanding of outcomes research, payer & access issues
- Proven ability to generate, analyze and interpret clinical trial and published data
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, high-level negotiation skills and the ability to resolve conflict in a constructive manner
- Demonstrated track record of successfully contributing to and managing high-performance cross-functional matrix teams in a complex organization with minimal direct supervision
- Ability to have an enterprise view beyond the current scope of responsibilities
- Skillful in leading and managing teams through change
