Major: Human Development
Please describe the experiences that have made you a Career-Ready Great Dane .
As a Human Development major, I’ve built a strong foundation in understanding child and family systems through my coursework and research. Working under Dr. Betty Lin and Dr. Tammy Ellis-Robinson deepened my skills in data analysis, literature review, and health equity research. Serving as a Resident Assistant strengthened my leadership, communication, and crisis management skills, while studying abroad in Italy and Korea expanded my cultural awareness and adaptability. My experiences have prepared me to pursue a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology focused on trauma, health equity, and underserved populations. The University’s Career Services, Advising PLUS, and study abroad office helped me connect my academic goals to real-world opportunities and professional growth.
What professional advice would you give a fellow Great Dane?
Take advantage of every opportunity UAlbany offers—research, internships, and study abroad programs can all open unexpected doors. Don’t be afraid to reach out to professors, advisors, or alumni for guidance; networking truly makes a difference. Be intentional about reflecting on what excites you and what aligns with your long-term goals. Most importantly, don’t compare your journey to others—trust your path, use campus resources, and stay open to learning from both your successes and setbacks. Growth happens when you push yourself beyond your comfort zone.
