Liam is a Career Ready Great Dane!

Major: Emergency Management and Homeland Security

Please describe the experiences that have made you a Career Ready Great Dane:

I have had the privilege of serving as an intern at three different organizations:
1. The Office of Safety and Emergency Management at St. Peter’s Hospital – Prepared briefings regarding different diseases that could harm the hospital, helped team respond to incidents such as violent threats, inclement weather or facility disasters.
2. NYS Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services in the Office of Counterterrorism – Worked along side analysts as they researched ways to strengthen counterterrorism capabilities. Collaborated with local, state and private entities. Educated the public on how to identify and report suspicious activity.
3. Disaster Studies Lab – I worked with Dr. Alex Greer to research governmental home acquisition programs in Texas.
Across all of my experiences, I have spoken and presented in front of large crowds which heightened my public speaking skill.

Advice for other Great Danes: Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there! I know it sounds cliche but, once you leave your comfort zone, you will be amazed at the opportunities that open up. This allowed me to meet many great people and discover new opportunities. My college experience has been shaped by friends, professors and co-workers who have helped me along the way. Try new things – join a club, try out for a sports team, or apply for an internship that interests you.
