Jeremy is a Career Ready Great Dane!

Major: Cybersecurity

Please describe the experiences that have made you a Career Ready Great Dane:

One pivotal moment for me was participating in Great Danes in NYC and going to company site visits. Before those visits, I thought I had a clear sense of direction for my career. But, walking through the halls, sitting in conference rooms, and speaking with professionals at some of the nation’s top companies completely shifted my perspective. It opened my eyes to what is possible and sparked a drive to figure out how to work for a similar type of company. I then participated in EY’s Trajectory Program. I was unsure about my path in cybersecurity but EY’s program helped clarify my interests. The work wasn’t overly technical and emphasized teamwork and public speaking (two things I genuinely enjoy). It allowed me to stay connected to my major while discovering the type of role I want to pursue.

Advice for other Great Danes: Connect with as many people as possible on campus – even if you don’t know them. I was looking for an academic advisor but they were unavailable. Another advisor in my major had her door open so I stopped to ask for help. That spontaneous conversation introduced me to opportunties, like EY’s program. The program helped me land additional internships at Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield and NYS ITS. That moment showed me how simply reaching out can open doors.
