The NACE Career Competienes are a nationally recognized and adopted framework to prepare graduates for workpalce success in their chosen careers. Each month, we will highlight a Career Competency and how you can use it in your work.

This month, we will discuss Career and Self-Development.

NACE defines this competency as “Proactively develop oneself and one’s career throughcontinual personal and professional learning, awareness of one’s strengths and weaknesses, navigation of career opportunities, and networking to build relationships within and without one’s organization”

You can help students grow in this area by:

  1. Using FOCUS 2 as part of your cirriculum + have students reflect on their results
  2. Encouraging students to attend events on campus that interest to maintain curiosity
  3. Asking students to reflect on their strengths and areas of growth both in assignments and in 1-1 conversations
