A Quick Checklist for your Internship

Congratulations, you landed an internship! Here’s what you need to know before you get started.

Set Goals

Revisit your responsibilities and set goals around what you would like to learn. Whether you are looking forward to developing new skills or enhancing your current ones, identify who can help you accomplish this. Your goals can be daily or weekly. Set a timeline that is realistic for you.

Have a Positive Attitude

Sometimes an internship may not be everything you expect. Make the most of the time by focusing on what you want to learn and meeting new people. More importantly, pay attention to what tasks energize you and talk to your supervisor about things that you enjoy doing throughout your time there.

Ask Questions

Learn as much as you can from coworkers and your supervisor about the industry, what they do in their role, and what skills are in demand. Also, don’t be afraid to ask clarifying questions about assigned tasks/ projects. Questions don’t make you look silly, employers know you are not an expert. Knowing what is expected of you will make life much easier.
