Welcome to our monthly segment of 5 Questions with a Career Champions Challenge Finisher! Each month, we will talk to a Career Champions Challenge Finisher and share their wisdom.
What is your name/title:
Samantha Friedman
Professor and Internship Director of Sociology and Director of the Center for Social and Demographic Analysis
What was your favorite Career Champions Challenge Module?
My favorite Challenge Module was Day 1 – “Introduction to our website.” The video was extremely informative in demonstrating how to navigate the many resources available. I especially liked how job and internship materials are organized by career path, making it easy for students to find everything in one place instead of searching through separate pages.
How have you incorporated the Challenge into your work?
The Challenge inspired me to dedicate time in each course I teach to introducing students to the job, internship, resume, and cover letter resources available on your website.
What advice do you have for a Challenger?
Students come to UAlbany for a well-rounded education, and they want to be successful in landing jobs or furthering their education. The Career Champions Challenge is an excellent way to learn about the support services available to help students achieve their career and academic goals.
What is your favorite podcast/book/show currently?
Currently, my favorite podcast is WTF with Marc Maron. He interviews musicians, comedians, directors, actors, and even President Barack Obama (which was one of his best episodes). Some of my favorite recent and past interviews were with Mo Amer, Richard Gadd, Robert Zemeckis, Carol Burnett, Connie Chung, Henry Louis Gates, Jr., and Keith Richards.
