4 Proven Strategies to Dominate Your Next Career Fair

It’s officially the start of the semester and career fair season. Below are 4 ways to make the most of your time at upcoming career fairs, and ultimately land a new contact, internship, or job:

  1. Have elevator pitch prepared: Going up to a recruiter can be intimidating but if you have a solid elevator pitch ready, this can make you feel more prepared to introduce yourself and what you bring to the table.
  2. Give a great first impression: firm handshake, polished outfit, smile, eye contact and being genuinely interested are all important factors to keep in mind. Try to be memorable by connecting with the recruiter on shared interests and conversation.
  3. Research: Handshake shows what companies will be at the fairs and the positions they are looking for. Do some research ahead of time to ensure you’re a good match and can discuss how your qualifications fit the role.
  4. Be prepared to connect and follow-up: Collect business cards and follow-up with an email or ask to link with recruiters on LinkedIn.

By exuding a great attitude, looking polished and professional, and doing your research and following up, you should have new opportunities lined up in no time!
