UAlbany students have fantastic internship opportunities! Read below to learn about Iszzy Hernandez, a senior and a double major in Studio Art and Art History interning at the University Art Museum. She’s also one of our awesome Peer Career Advisors (PCA)!
Where is your internship?
I’m a Collections Intern at the University Art Museum.
How did you find out about your internship?
I emailed the Art Museum directly to see if any internship opportunities were available. The Museum then asked me to provide my resume and a writing sample and made an appointment to meet together.
What are your responsibilities as an intern?
I work within the collections, which are the art works the museum owns and cares for. I do condition reporting of the art pieces, organize art works, create social media posts based on the art collection, frame and un-frame art pieces, compose supporting art text, research artists and the different art works, and other administrative tasks – just a little bit of everything, anything the museum needs help with! I can be a part of anything that involves the artworks within the museum.
What other clubs and activities are you involved in besides being a PCA?
I’m a Choreographer/Support Squad Member of the UAlbanyDance Council, Peer Mentor for the Introduction to Film Studies course, and a member of the UAlbany National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
What’s one piece of advice you have for students who are looking for internships?
To be active in the internship process. To proactively reach out to employers and to your major department for any opportunities. Be prepared and be able to speak about yourself to prospective employers. Don’t only rely on Handshake but to actively look for opportunities on your own.
Thanks Iszzy! There’s still time to look for internship opportunities, make an appointment with our office!
